Hey guys, I have a 1.42ghz MDD PM with a yamaha ypt-300 and a midi/usb cable that supposedly doesn't require any drivers. The cable shows up in midi audio setup as well as in my usb preferences tab, and garageband says that '1 midi device is connected', but I can't seem to make any sounds through the computer. I try to set up a software instrument but nothing plays. Am I right in assuming that any software instrument should be able to be controlled through the keyboard with no further setup?

BUT!, The midi IN and midi OUT1/2 lights on my usb midi interface don't light up at all! Even though it says there is a midi input in garage band, which might just be the usb part of the lead lying to it. And saying there is when there's not. The OS X Lion driver supplied by Yamaha's website didn't seem to be associated with any specific keyboard model. The various drivers just corresponded to Mac OS versions. After installing one of these Yamaha-generic, Mac-specific drivers and opening the MIDI Window ('MIDI Studio') in Lion's 'Audio Midi Setup' utility, the keyboard played the test tones fine when I clicked the little down arrow beneath the DGX-505 icon. (Little warning: unless you like startling surprises, don't have your Mac's output volume set to max when you do this, especially if your keyboard's volume is also set high!) At first I couldn't get the keyboard to be recognized by the Mac though, until I came across tonyjwinter's post quoted above.
